January 1st has come & gone... The first few weeks and months you have had your game face on and Eye of the tiger has been playing in the background of life (or is this just me?)
You have got it all Heart, Determination, Action - whatever it takes to tackle your goal! And, POOF!! An obstacle or two arise that try to knock you down, but instead you boldy speak forth, “ain’t nobody got time for that!” while courageously pursuing the goal. By now, you know where this is going because life doles out plenty of surprises while in the pursuit of happiness. We've all been there! Maybe you set a goal to lose a few pounds, but it's ridiculous how many cookies keep getting brought to the office! Set backs happen. Constantly avoiding temptations and hurdles is EXHAUSTING! It can make you start to live on edge or worse make you lose steam all together. Here are some tips & tricks to reach your goal: 1. Focus on WHY you set your goal in the first place. List out the reasons you decided to set this specific goal, the obstacles you think will arise (and how you will handle them), and reflect about how you will feel if you do not reach this goal. Take time to pinpoint what you want to create by achieving this goal and what you want to avoid. 2. Take BABY STEPS! Sure, you can change your whole life over night, but is it realistic? Probably not... You will get real tired, real quick. Implementing small doses of change in your daily routine will give you the endurance you need to sustain on the goal reaching path. Staying consistent and building upon small successes will amount to a huge change. If you find yourself losing wind after a few weeks cut back on change, and try again. 3. Track your results. I know this one might seem self explanatory, but personally when I am beginning to feel burnt out there is usually an emotional factor to it. My version of tracking is by writing down how I felt that day, or by breaking the day up into sections (TAKING BABY STEPS!) The purpose is to have a reference guide that empowers you - not brings you down. A basic key is to create a visual tracker with a baseline and achievable mini goals along the way to the finish line! These steps together serve mightily in cultivating the habits and practices necessary to reach goals and avoid burnout. Got any tips & tricks to share? Be sure to comment below!
